ABOUT THE PROJECT
Academic City – A Science and Education Hub with Residential Campuses
Since 2023, the International Educational Corporation (IEC) has been working on the creation of the innovative science and education hub “Academic City.” The project addresses two key challenges: the shortage of student housing and the need for faculty accommodations within walking distance of the academic campus.
Project Highlights
a 3.3-hectare land plot owned by IEC, with two access points from Ryskulbekov and Mustafin Streets
Location
Zoning and Compliance
the site fully complies with the approved general plan of Almaty, municipal regulations, and national construction codes. The design accounts for requirements regarding sunlight access, ventilation, and building spacing
science centers, educational courses, childcare facilities, coworking areas, and retail, dining, and service venues

Residential Capacity
4,280 international-standard dormitory spaces for students and 342 apartments for faculty members
Development and Approval Process
Following expert feedback aimed at enhancing the concept and elevating it to global standards, the updated design was approved on June 22, 2024.
The project was reviewed twice by Almaty’s Urban Planning Council in 2023

Final approvals are currently underway
On July 19, 2024, the project received its Architectural and Planning Assignment (APA) from Almaty’s Urban Planning and Architecture Department

Funding
Under an agreement with JSC “Financial Center,” the properties will retain their designated purpose for 20 years.
The project is being financed by IEC’s own resources as part of the national program from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education
